
Introduction to Neo-Paganism

This introductory class is taught by Leaf McGowan, who used to be the Senior Druid and organizer of the Wakulla Cypress Grove, ADF (Tallahassee, Florida); Ancient Forests proto-Grove, ADF (Eugene, Oregon); Pagan teacher and instructor for Free Spirit, Tree Leaves' Folk Fellowship, and the Center for Participant Education at Florida State University (Tallahassee, Florida); and a Masters candidate with work in the Ethnographic study of Paganism in the United States. He is also an Anthropologist and Archaeologist. Raised a Catholic with esoteric magical practice, he became a Witch in the early 70's, a Wiccan in the early 80's, a Druid in the early 90's, and currently practices his own form of ADF Druidism mixed with Faerie religion and Witchcraft.
The class will discuss the terminology and meaning of the word "Pagan" in its use through history. A brief history of the types of Paganism through the ages : Paleo-Paganism, Meso-Paganism, and the core of the class : Neo-Paganism in concept, theory, and practice. A summary of elements of shared philosophy and views covering animism, pantheism, and polytheism will be discussed as well as some of the various forms of traditions available in Neo-Paganism today ... such as Druidism, Witchcraft, Wicca, Shamanism, CAW, and Mystery religions.
This is a free class. Donations are always greatly appreciated to help cover costs of handouts and supplies, but not expected. Class size is limited to 20. First Come, First Serve. Pre-Registration / reservations are highly recommended. Doors close promptly at 6:05 PM.
