On Saturday, October 13, 2007: gathering at 4 pm - and lasting till about 7:30 pm .... About 45 of us Showed up dressed as Zombies ...

for the 1st Annual Manitou Springs Zombie Crawl:
We came dressed as zombies and the undead for a staggering, lurching, foot dragging, crawl-walk down historic Manitou Avenue ... with groans and calls of "Brains" ... those without makeup or know-how on being a zombie still came, and we did our best to dress them up ... We rose from the dead from Manitou's former funeral parlor, now home to the Tree Leaves' Oracle, and started our invasion of Manitou around 4:45 pm. Afterwards, we invaded the Ancient Mariner to partake of drinks and food ... and even some of us brave zombie souls headed for Denver in search of Brains there ....

In the News: Manitou Zombie Invasion

Dawn of the Dead: Arising with the sun, cold floor, chilly morning ... Woodsman Leaf stumbled out of bed and started feeling dizzy But something wasn't right in the air as fumes from the crypt below the former funeral parlor started seeping up through the woodwork. So he started taping tarps over the floorboards in hopes to contain the vapors. Before he knew it, he fell faint, and woke up dead. That's right, woke up dead. Soon, neighbours came over and attacked him, eating the flesh from his right side of his face and body. mawled, and slaughtered, he fell to the floor - in a spasm, went lifeless, and re-animated. Not fully conscious of what was going on, him and several zombies went about their daily routines - as Leaf died, he was preparing for a halloween party and continued ... but was obsessed with blood. He filled up bowls with lots and lots of blood. You'd think he was taking a blood bath.

Day of the Dead: Before the Ressurrection Building knew what hit it, the neighbours and inhabitants of the old funeral building were all dead and walking about. People walking down the street were taken out. A construction worker was bashed in the head with an axe, and started staggering around re-animated. A hula hoop guy was eaten alive by a hoard of zombies, and ressurected, continuing to hula hoop but in a stiff animation. More and more ... were dying and coming back to life ... until the Tree Leaves Oracle shop was full of the living dead all in the search for Brains. Kids, parents, teenagers, adults, creatures ... all thirsty for blood and brains ... it is then that they started their walk ...

"Mommy, that's not a brain ..."

"Here Mommy, here's a real brain ...
It tastes sooo much better ..."

Night of the Living Dead - They piled out of the Resurrection building and onto Ruxton. Stumbling, dragging, crawling, and meandering their way down the road towards downtown in search of brains, blood, and guts. As they poured out onto Manitou Avenue, dozens of tourists fell victim to the zombie's grasp. Walking the whole strip of downtown, the zombies invaded the "Mariner" where they sought to satisfy their palates and get their fill. Their were even two birthdays celebrated by the zombies ... cake and cookies ... with blood and brain icing. A small party of the undead took place at the Mariner and as darkness fell, the zombies went on their own ways in search of more brains ... while seven took off to Denver to attack unexpecting victims at the Shelter while doing the "Zombie dance" and imbibing too many zombies ....
